Somatics is a field within bodywork and movement studies which emphasizes internal physical perception and experience. The term is used to signify approaches based on the soma, or “the body as perceived from within.” In Ysidras’ video and sound installation, titled Nature Bends, an amorphous foreign figure cyclically emerges from and enters back into its fabric cocoon, blindly splitting through living layers of color. Surrounding contorted veins of bark and breathing grass fall into a balanced step with the slow nascent movements and evolution of the being, as it attains humanity through its embryonic uncovering. Nature Bends will be on view at FUTRA presents KINETIC on August 11th & 12th.
Ysidras, founded by Nereida Villarreal and in collaboration with Joana Perez and Tara LaPlante, is a creative agency and platform for artists of all disciplines to conceptualize a statement, style, or movement. Ysidras has been featured in FONDLE Magazine. Nereida Villarreal has also worked on projects that have been published in Flanelle, LA CANVAS, and Klatbult (Berlin).
