There’s A Trippy, Surrealist Art Experience Downtown This Weekend
There’s a cool event happening downtown this weekend that attempts to—get ready for this—detach from reality and explore the nature of dreams.
Record label FUTRA is presenting a show called ‘Surrealism’ at LOT 613 on Saturday, from 7 p.m. to midnight. This interesting event involves dreamy wandering through trippy installations, photography, sculpture, video and performances. You’re encouraged to dress in ‘surrealist fashion’ as you check out the photo booth, take in music from an assortment of atmospheric DJs and explore some fascinating art. We’re most excited about Owl Vision, a virtual reality piece from animator Akiko Yamashita, in which guests will use Oculus Rift to explore a strange world.
According to FUTRA, “Surrealists dedicate themselves to unlocking the mind by capturing thoughts, images, and ideas that come to one in sleep, hypnosis and altered states. This landscape will permeate and explore the subconscious, dream-dominated, and disassociated meanings and contradictions of our expressed reality.”
Surrealism will take place at Lot 613 Gallery, 613 Imperial St., DTLA. Saturday, July 11, 7 p.m. to midnight. 21+. $5 before 9 .m., $7 after with RSVP. There will also be a cash bar.
