FUTRA is a multimedia experience brand that makes the connection between genres, art, and design. Based in Los Angeles, Futra invites artists of all walks of life; visual, experimental, video, and performance – in addition to musicians – to find harmony with one another.
FUTRA is the latest in a line of projects by Midwest transplant TARA LAPLANTE. She graduated from Montana State with a BFA in Painting and then moved back to the Midwest to continue her creative endeavors. In Minneapolis, TARA co-founded the art collective Offbeat Gallery and record label Timefog, which was home to many international techno artists.
Tara’s relocation to Los Angeles in 2009 formed a change in her vision. The fusion of dance music culture and visual arts became the source of inspiration for Futra. Founded in 2011, this multimedia experience brand features DJ’s, producers, designers, performers, and visual artists through events, podcasts, and radio shows. Futra curates concept-driven multimedia events that fuse visual art, music, video, experimental and performance.
Futra’s Art Director, JOANA PEREZ is artist and visionary in fashion, art, and music. After growing up in the Midwest dance music scene, she moved to California in search of warm weather and inspiration. JOANA attained a degree in Fashion Design from FIDM in 2003 and has been hard at work in the industry ever since. Joana continues to push herself creatively and her elegant, edgy, and minimal style is key in creating Futra’s look and design.
Futra’s Visual Curator, NEREIDA VILLARREAL, is a stylist and creative director in fashion, photography, film, and TV. Raised in the high desert and connecting with art from a young age, NEREIDA graduated with Interior Design from Arts Institute of LA in 2006. She’s inspired by landscapes, minimalism, the 1980’s, and anything that can be captured that causes you to salivate because of its aesthetic.
