Futra 004: EshOne – The Search EP with Don Froth remix
The fourth release on LA-based Futra The Search EP is deep, dark, and mesmerizing. It features three original tracks by EshOne and a big remix by Don Froth delivering his funky, high-energy sounds and signature swinging bass lines.
EshOne (Donnie Valdez) resides in both San Diego and Albuquerque pushing his vast and heavy bass music mainly through Elk Beats which he co-founded in 2011. Since his first release in 2008, he has sought out to test every boundary possible with his music whether that be through formula, tempo, or distribution. EshOne’s first Futra release contains a unique approach and style hinting at house, techno, and garage.
Originally, west coast producer Don Froth (Julian Smith) released his first installment of the 12″ Froth’n series on limited edition vinyl via surf shops. He’s since released records on London’s Phonica’s White Series, WNCL Recordings, Days of Being Wild, Funky Fella Crew and UNO NYC. His trademark swing and off-key bass lines has garnered support from tastemakers like Gilles Peterson, Mary Anne Hobbs, Massive Attack (3D), Jamie XX, 2562, Headhunter, KZA, Beats in Space among others, as well as airplay on BBC Radio 1, Rinse FM, KCRW, WFMU. He has been featured in Wire Magazine, Mixmag, XLR8R, Pitchfork, Fact Mag, RA, and Juno Plus. Smith has played events state side and Europe, engineered for DJ Harvey, remixed for EMU and Kuhrye-oo, and is currently working on two EP’s due out late 2013.
