It doesn’t matter where in the world the dancefloor is, Dazz Moov’s mission is simple; use the music to connect the people by moving their souls and their feet. Adept at mixing a dynamic soundscape of heavy bass, chopped up drum patterns, and infectious rhythms, Dazz Moov pays respect to the classic history of dance culture while seamlessly injecting the future of electronic music. His solid foundation in drum & bass, house, and techno forged in the 90′s and his relentless pursuit of quality music make him a Los Angeles bass artist to keep an eye on.

FUTRA PRESENTS

SUREFIRE SOUND SPRING TOUR 2012

~ In celebration of the Addison Groove “Transistor Rhythm” album and the Doc Daneeka & Benjamin Damage “They!Live” album – both released earlier this year on Modeselektor’s 50Weapons label~

ADDISON GROOVE (50Weapons/ Swamp 81/ Tectonic) UK
ADDISON GROOVE FACEBOOK

Addison Groove (aka Antony Williams) started life under a different pseudonym altogether. Recording as Headhunter, with an LP and 12” releases on the influential Tempa label stretching back to 2007, he achieved legendary status within the dubstep scene. His work at the deeper end of the spectrum graced the label an impressive 7 times, a figure matched only by Skream. This work looked set to continue until 2010 when, seemingly out of nowhere, he crafted one of the biggest bass music tracks of the decade, ‘Footcrab’, under the new name of Addison Groove.

The response to ‘Footcrab’ was phenomenal, receiving critical and commercial success in equal measure across the dance music scene. Getting plays not only from the dubstep DJs that Williams was used to reaching, it also found its way into the record boxes of techno and house heavyweights such as Aphex Twin, Surgeon, Ricardo Villalobos and Mr Scruff, bringing an enormous new audience to his music in the process. Taking influences from the Chicago ghetto tek and juke scenes, Addison Groove’s impact on UK bass music has been colossal and unprecedented, sparking a huge interest in these styles from his peers and the listening public alike.

DOC DANEEKA (50Weapons/ Ramp / TenThousandYen) UK
DOC DANEEKA FACEBOOK

It’s not common for an artist based in Wales to become the toast of underground music, but Doc Daneeka is just that. With releases on Ramp, Fabric, PTN, & Well Rounded in the bag, Doc Daneeka has started his own boutique label, Ten Thousand Yen releasing other fresh artists like xxxy, Julio Bashmore as well as his own unique material. Bookings all around Europe last year solidified his energetic DJ sets as one of the most sought after performances by clubs all around the world.

Delivering scorching mixes for the likes of Fact Mag & XLR8R, trademark rattling drums and punchy low end characterize this producers unclassifiable DJ sets, as well as countless unreleased dubs.

KURU (Media Contender/ Muse) LA
KURU FACEBOOK

Long time collaborators Ryan Origin and Jeffrey Francis Tovar wanted to change the way they were participating in music, so the KURU project was born. Combining elements of bass, techno, and progressive dance music, KURU rocks dancefloors and captivates audiences with their unique brand of left-leaning sonics. Busy in the studio since 2008, their collaborations and original music have found their way onto some of the most seminal imprints in dance music today, with exponential growth on the horizon. On stage, their live performances cover ground untouched by others; dual-laptops with synced visuals by Brian Markman create the perfect conditions to get lost in the worlds they design.

Since 2007, the pair have designed and printed hundreds of rock posters and promotional pieces for movies and video games. Two Rabbits started small in a North Hollywood backyard—less than five years later, and they’ve been featured in galleries, Flatstock poster shows, and craft fairs in the United States and UK. They’ve worked with Warner Music Group and concert promoters Goldenvoice for artists ranging from Skrillex to Wu Tang to Portishead.
“Our work lately has been drastically focused on the repurposing of our by-product. Running a commercial print shop, making printed products all day, yields a lot of excess and leftover material, and we don’t like to see anything go to waste. From our test prints to our mixing sticks, we see the chaos and beauty of our artistic endeavors in everything that’s left over. We have taken what many consider to be useless and turned it into beautiful works of color and shape”

Futra 001 is by Los Angeles bass producer EEZIR. Originally from Milwaukee, Eric Hanson cut his teeth in the legendary 90’s Midwest electronic music scene. Moving to Los Angeles in 1999, EEZIR has performed for Friendly Integration, SMOG, and Droid Behavior. His productions on the Lone Lifter EP greatly contrast in mood and style; you will find classic acid sounds, heavy bass lines, and dreamy and gritty melodies. XI is originally from Toronto and recently relocated to the music hotbed of Berlin. With releases on labels such as Orca, Lo Dubs, and Immerse; he is quickly gaining a reputation for crafting bass music that maintains a respect for the past, while hinting at the future of electronic music.

Supported by: Mary Ann Hobbs, Jimmy Edgar, Dave Q, Sam Supa, Drumcell, Audio Injection, Ghosts On Tape, Noah Pred, Kastle, XLR8R, Kuru, Pawn, Deco

“Lone Lifter”
The EP’s title track Lone Lifter has a positive vibe with an added dose of intensity and pace. The track is funky, catchy, and commanding, and has all the right elements in becoming a warehouse classic.

“Blacktop Lane”
The EP’s powerful acid track has a feeling of driving down a curvy, mountain road. The way you rise and fall, twist and turn, the unknown factor of what lies ahead. EEZIR, who grew up in the Midwest, brings you a flavor of those classic acid sounds.

“Shifted View”
The contrasting moods from mellow and ethereal to snarling and aggressive bring an intensity and IDM flavor to the EP. Just as your view can be shifted by an unexpected event in life, this track represents that moment that leads to a new view.

“Lone Lifter (XI remix)”
Funky, slowed down, and deep is where XI takes the original Lone Lifter title track. His rendition has funkier house and garage swinging beats with dreamy and playful tones.

Los Angeles born and bred, Vangelis and Vidal Vargas were raised in the ’80s on a steady diet of Latin freestyle, electro, and new wave that pervaded their urban environment. Their father also exposed them to cutting edge progressive acts Vangelis, Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk, planting early seeds for aural exploration. By the mid ’90s they were sampling LA’s underground club scene and heavily researching electronic music’s roots. After years of influence they began to express their musical vision through their own recordings and performances. Vidal and Vangelis eventually found common ground with producer / performer Drumcell, and in 2002 they formed the Droid Behavior event production group and record label out of frustration with the city’s lack of knowledge, acceptance, and understanding for Midwest-bred techno and house music and their European counterparts.

As producers Vangelis and Vidal have released and licensed original music and remixes under various aliases (most notably Acid Circus and Raíz) on the Droid Recordings imprint as well as respected labels Historia y Violencia, Tora Tora Tora, DJMag, Music Man, Resident Advisor, and many more.

A throwback to dj’s a generation ago, Ricky eschews digital artifice to rely on his staggering and coveted collection of vinyl and acetates. A stalwart of the Los Angeles underground since 2006, Ricky Def continues to execute his craft and compel dance floors with his impeccable sound.

Zak aka DVS1 (devious one), is one of the most prominent figures in the Midwest/US dance music landscape today. A local DJ favorite since the mid nineties, DVS1 continues to move floors with a combination of deep musical knowledge, unparalleled enthusiasm, and a vinyl collection of more than 10,000 records. Zak’s deep roots and his bold and uncompromising nature have won him great respect as a passionate and outspoken defender and promoter (HUSH) of quality music.

Zak began DJing in New York in the early nineties, focusing on the acid sounds of that time. After relocating to Minneapolis in the mid 90’s, his style evolved, into something more complex, deeper and more rhythmic. Since then, he has branched out into a wide variety of sounds from hard and fast, to deep and hypnotic, to slow and soulful. Rather than giving limiting names to the genres he plays, he describes the music as beats, rhythms, textures, and colors. His philosophy is that the genre distinctions themselves aren’t important the emotional content of the music is. This focus is readily apparent in the way he moves crowds both literally and figuratively by fusing together sounds that paint coherent, evocative, and powerful moods that are always appropriate for the time and place he is playing.

Samo Sound Boy is a Los Angeles based producer and DJ whose powerful live sets, and original productions have brought him to the forefront of today’s global club scene. His introduction as an artist came in 2005 when Samo spent a year living in Buenos Aires, Argentina. There he learned to DJ from experimental cumbia producers at the now infamous Fugees 99, a Nigerian-owned dancehall in the city’s south end. Compounding those influences with a love of crunk and ghetto house, Samo emerged to create a uniquely rugged but soulful sound of his own. With his second EP released through Palms Out Sounds, another for Trouble and Bass, and forthcoming remixes for the likes of Tim Dolla, Bassanova, and NGUZUNGUZU, Samo is only getting started spreading his club aesthetic that Chicago journalist Dave Quam described as: “Weird, banging, and beautiful. Like a shortwave radio recording of all the best stations at once.”
On her latest jewelry collection, she notes: “I love playing with asymmetry, whether that means wearing a hoop in one ear and a long feather earring in the other, or pairing 2 or 3 chain earrings all on one side – It’s all about mixing and matching to find one’s own style. I want to encourage people to have the confidence to wear something bold, something different.”

“Nasquatch feather accessories are unique and rarely-sighted, made
from feather combinations mother nature wished she had thought of
first! These one of a kind pieces are all hand made originals, for the
kind of girl who flocks together with a different kind of feather.
The artist is some random geologist who discovered one day that rocks weren’t her only friends. See for yourself. Take a photo. Post it on the internet. See if people can believe it.”

Riding the line between mayhem and control, he paints images that are both chaotic and contained, each canvas an arena where chance and skill come together to create a colorful fusion of iconic imagery. Utilizing his distinctive gonzo style, he explores subjects such as the dark side of humanity, the beauty in nature, the fading line between man and machine, and brutal truths we often avoid, all while matching his subjects with the expressive vitality they deserve.
