Elissa Cedarleaf Dahl is a professional artist from Minneapolis who is making her Op Art debut with Futra. Her expertise includes murals, large-scale oil paintings and examining how collaborative art can facilitate a dialogue and relationship with its participants, which she believes is worth more than the end product. Her color-rich paintings combine narratives of neighborhood disparities via messy abstractions intertwined with geometric references to land use and zoning maps. By employing a bird’s eye view of the urban landscape, she juxtaposes the orderly grids of our cities interrupted by the organic flow of rivers, lakes and oceans.

For Op Art Futra Elissa created 100 pairs of glasses with custom lenses cut from details of her paintings. She hopes that participants will use them to immerse their world in color; experiencing the night through her abstracted maps and brightly painted reality.
