Futra is a multimedia experience brand that makes the connection between genres, art, and design. Based in Los Angeles, Futra invites artists of all walks of life; visual, experimental, video, and performance – in addition to musicians – to find harmony with one another.
Futra is the latest in a line of projects by Midwest transplant Tara LaPlante. A visual artist and one time owner of an art gallery in Minneapolis, Tara was a founding member of the Timefog record label. Home to many techno artists including Jon Hester, Mike Gervais, James Patrick, Dustin Zahn, and DVS1 the label went on to work with producers such as Barem, Tim Xavier, Drumcell, Raiz, Audio Injection, Someone Else, and Bruno Pronsato.
Tara’s relocation to Los Angeles in 2009 formed a change in her artistic vision. The fusion of diverse dance music culture and visual arts became the source of inspiration for Futra, a new experience and label within the city. Founded in 2011, this multimedia experience brand features DJ’s, producers, designers, performers, and visual artists through events, podcasts, and radio shows. Since 2015, Futra has created concept-driven and large-scale multimedia events that fuse visual art, music, video, experimental art, and performance.
Futra’s Art Director, Joana Perez, is artist and visionary in fashion, art, and music. After growing up in the Midwest dance music scene, she moved to California in search of warm weather and inspiration. Joana quickly attained a degree in Fashion Design from FIDM in 2003 and has been hard at work in the industry ever since. Joana continues to push herself creatively and her elegant, edgy, and minimal style is key in creating Futra’s modern look and design.
Futra’s Visual Curator, Nereida Villarreal, is a stylist and creative director in fashion, photography, and art installation. Raised in the high desert and connecting with art from a young age, Nereida graduated with Interior Design from Arts Institute of LA in 2006. She has gone on to work in TV, film, and fashion as a wardrobe stylist. She’s inspired by landscapes, minimalism, the 80’s, and anything that can be captured that makes you salivate because of its aesthetic.
